GASH WANTS MORE FOR GILMORE
With the prospect of a change of government in Canberra a very real possibility, Gilmore MP Joanna Gash is wasting no time in jumping ahead of the queue for funding for the electorate from an incoming Coalition government.
Mrs Gash hosted a visit by the Leader of the National’s and Shadow Minister for Roads and Transport, Warren Truss last Monday, to impress upon him the need for urgent road funding for the area.
Mr Truss was briefed by Shoalhaven City Council officers.
The briefing was also attended by representatives of Kiama and Shellharbour Council’s.
“The lack of support following Simon Crean’s visit earlier this year, is showing us that under this government, we’re not going to get very much.
“However, under the Howard Government, Gilmore won an extra $64 million in funding for the Princes Highway and helped deliver Main Road 92.
“I’m making sure that when there is a change of government, they know exactly where we stand, what we need and when we need it.
“Roads are vital to our local economy and none more vital than the Princes Highway which delivers goods and services to villages right down to the Victorian border.
“We need a third river crossing and we need to open up opportunities for greater economic growth to support our growing population.
“The Princes Highway is the key link to our economic well being but this obvious fact seems to escape this government.
“I will do everything that is necessary to make sure it is not a fact that escapes any incoming Coalition Government”, Mrs Gash said.
