VOTERS BETRAYED TODAY BY LABOR’S CARBON TAX
The passing of The Gillard Government’s controversial carbon tax is nothing more than a betrayal of the Australian people who voted in a government that promised, loudly and clearly, there will be no carbon tax.
Mrs Gash said voters will remember this day as a day a government who forced an unnecessary tax on all Australians coming at the worst possible time for many of our citizens who are already struggling with the rising cost of living.
“What is of major concern to me is that small business is not going to be compensated at all.
“If they can’t pass on the cost of this new tax then they either cut expenses or shut down the business.
“It won’t happen over night, but I can assure you that it will happen.
Mrs Gash said that small business was a major employer in Gilmore and many were already living a hand to mouth existence.
“This could well mean the death knell for many family owned businesses and more people on the dole queue.
“The carbon tax will increase the cost of living; cost jobs and most of the compensation packages that the government has put on offer will barely cover increase - or be exhausted early.
“They will spend more taxpayer dollars to disguise the blow of this tax in the first couple of years and then it will be open slather.
“It remains to be seen whether all the assurances Julia Gillard has been feeding us that everything ‘will be OK’ will end up being the same as her broken promise.
“Only time will tell.
Mrs Gash said the carbon tax will send jobs overseas and companies can purchase permits to pollute in other countries.
“The sad thing is, despite all the unnecessary pain it brings, this tax will not even put a dent in the world’s carbon emissions.
Mrs Gash has repeated the Coalition’s promise to repeal the carbon tax if the Coalition is re-elected.
